  1. As widely believed, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are most responsible for the migrants. According to the 2011 census, 20.9 million people went out of the state from two states. It is 37% of the total number of inter-State migrants according to that calculation. Data for migrants 2011 is available now.

Not only are people moving within the states, they are moving ahead within the districts. Increase in inter-district migration (movement within the same district) increased from 33% to 45% between 1991-2001 and 2001-11. Obviously, people are getting better opportunities closer to home than before.
