  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set for its 101st space mission with the launch of PSLV-C61 carrying the EOS-09 satellite on May 18 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
  • EOS-09 is an advanced Earth Observation Satellite equipped with C-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), enabling high-resolution imaging under all weather and lighting conditions.
  • Its applications span disaster response, flood mapping, agriculture monitoring, urban development, and national security.
  • Meanwhile, ISRO and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) held the third Technical Interface Meeting (TIM-3) on May 13–14 in Bengaluru for the joint Chandrayaan-5/LUPEX lunar mission. Following previous missions—Chandrayaan-1 (orbital), Chandrayaan-2 (orbiter + lander attempt), and Chandrayaan-3 (successful landing)—LUPEX aims to explore water ice in the Moon’s south polar regions.
  • The mission will use JAXA’s H3-24L launcher, with ISRO building the lander and Japan's MHI developing the rover. Payloads from ISRO, JAXA, ESA, and NASA will conduct in-situ volatile analysis.
