•    Why in News?
o    The World Bank has approved $250 million in funding for the Inga 3 Hydropower Project in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), a significant step in Africa’s energy development.
•    Key Provisions:-
o    Inga 3 is a proposed 11,050 MW hydropower facility on the Congo River and forms part of the ambitious Grand Inga Project, which targets over 42,000 MW in total installed capacity.
o    Once completed, Inga 3 could be one of the largest clean energy sources in the world, helping electrify vast regions of Africa.
o    The Congo River, which spans six countries—Cameroon, Central African Republic, DRC, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon—is the world’s second-largest river by flow (after the Amazon), and second-longest in Africa (after the Nile).
o    It also hosts the world’s largest tropical peatlands, making it ecologically and economically vital. Inga 3 represents a major opportunity for sustainable energy and regional development.
